Scotland - to Applecross and Ullapool

What a great weekends ride thanks to Andy's excellent planning. In 2014 we did a loop of Scotland but couldn't make Applecross in time. We had to put that right, but almost couldn't join him due to work commitments. Lindsay had never ridden in Scotland before and was interested in taking a ride up there so on Thursday we both headed off to meet Andy, Ron, Dave, Dean and Joel in Scotland (24th - 27th June). Bit of  a last minute decision, the weather looked promising and managed to get time off work at last.

With a ride up via the Lake district we met the others at the Cross Keys Inn, New Galloway in Dumfries and Galloway for the night. Great stay and good food.

The following day myself and Lindsay took a steady ride up past Loch Lomond, and then via Tyndrum and through Glencoe to the sublime Applecross via the Pass or the Cattle:  Bealach na Ba and Shieldaig

A bit of rain - but adds to the drama in Scotland I think.

The Pass of the Cattle. One of the highest mountain passes in the UK. Usually closed during the winter.

Wet .. but happy !!

Sublime view from the top of the pass.

Applecross Inn for fresh Scallops.

On Saturday Andy had plotted a route up the coast to Ullapool. This was amazing. Well worth the 700 odd mile journey up to this part of Scotland.

On the Sunday, we took an incredible ride through even more wilderness down to the campsite in Braemar near Balmoral. It was so good I forgot to stop and take photos so these resident ducks will have to do!!

As soon as I started cooking on the camp stove they appeared to steal some bread !!
